Stepping Stones Executive Director Chris Adams with Teddy Kremer, keynote speaker at 2016 Annual Meeting at the American Red Cross
On April 19, Stepping Stones‘ annual meeting recognized another year of building pathways to independence for people with disabilities.

More than 100 participants, supporters, board members and staff gathered at the Cincinnati American Red Cross for a luncheon, with delicious food by Funky’s Catering.

This year’s keynote speakers were Teddy Kremer, bat boy for the Cincinnati Reds, and Diane Lang. Kremer and Lang co-authored with Michael Buchanan Stealing First: the Teddy Kremer Story. Teddy spoke of his life with a disability and his zest for life, as he’s charged through doors and overcome obstacles. He has achieved success with the Cincinnati Reds, made appearances on ESPN and has now published a memoir, Stealing First, which will be available this fall.

The event also welcomed John Mongelluzzo as new president of the board of trustees. John is a longtime supporter of Stepping Stones and has previously held positions as vice president of the board and chair of the development committee. We are thrilled to welcome him into his new role and look forward to this next chapter.

The Catherine Clark Borchers Award was received by Jeff Stone, a direct care professional in the adult day program at our UCP Campus. This annual award recognizes a staff’s strong commitment to Stepping Stones’ mission. Jeff was nominated by several of his peers for his continual hard work and dedication to serving people with disabilities. The audience applauded Jeff with a standing ovation as he accepted his award from Fred B., a participant of Stepping Stones.

The annual volunteer appreciation award was accepted by the Cincinnati Rotary Club for their continued hard work and support of Stepping Stones’ Allyn Campus in Batavia. In the past year, volunteers from Rotary have completed various service projects for Stepping Stones, including planting trees at our day camp site and building a fenceline for a nature center on the sensory trail. The Cincinnati Rotary Club also hosts an annual fundraising event that benefits three local nonprofits, including Camp Allyn. Believe 2 Achieve will be held on June 18 at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse.
