Weekend Respites Offer Fun and Recreation at Camp Allyn

Date posted: March 28, 2018

Spring has finally arrived and Stepping Stones’ Weekend Respite program is reflecting back on all the fun they’ve had over the last couple of months. Held at our scenic 46-acre Camp Allyn campus in Batavia, the programs provide  teens and adults with a stimulating social environment, engaging recreational activities, and the opportunity to build new friendships throughout the school-year in a safe, overnight setting.

With a unique theme each session, Weekend Respite participants have enjoyed a variety of activities in the winter months. In January, Camp Allyn became a playground of game shows for the Game Show Mania Respite. Participants tested their luck and knowledge in classic games of Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right and Family Feud.

The February Mardi Gras Respite presented the perfect opportunity for bringing festive, sparkling art projects to life for decorating a Mardi Gras dance. Volunteers of The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences were on hand with lots of glitter and joined participants in dancing the night away to music by DJ Ed. Getting a taste of New Orleans, everyone also hit the kitchen to prepare King Cake Dip, Mardi Gras popcorn and tasty Voodoo pancakes. Following Mardi Gras, participants took a walk down memory lane in the Blast From the Past Respite, which featured a lot of big hair and neon!

In March, participants of the Stepping Stones’ Weekend Respite program said a final goodbye to winter and enjoyed a little luck of the Irish by celebrating St. Patrick’s Day together in a weekend filled with festivities. Getting into the swing of a new season, the Spring Fling Respite embraced all things spring as participants made “dirt” pudding, colorful kites and personalized bird feeders. Everyone also enjoyed getting into the spirit of March Madness with bracket-themed activities to cheer on our favorite college teams.

Looking Ahead to Summer

With the summer camp season on the horizon, Weekend Respites at Camp Allyn have just two sessions left before the summer fun truly begins!

From our Aloha Summer kick-off in June through Music Mash Up in August, Stepping Stones’ Summer 2018 calendar features nine Overnight Staycations for teens and adults with disabilities to find adventure in a six-day stay at Camp Allyn. Overnight Staycations offer an array of popular summer activities, including archery, fishing, boating, swimming, miniature golf and tethered hot air balloon rides-  as well as an assortment of theme-based fun.
