On November 8, Stepping Stones was proud to see our board president John Mongelluzzo named “Volunteer of the Year” at AFP Cincinnati’s National Philanthropy Day luncheon. With his involvement at Stepping Stones dating back to 2004, Mongelluzzo has championed the agency’s mission of building pathways to independence for people with disabilities and raised support for our vital programs for over fourteen years.

“John has a way of getting other people to be passionate about what they’re doing and understanding what the impact is going to be on our community – and also you as a person,” shares Stepping Stones’ executive director Chris Adams.

After nominating Mongelluzzo to the board in 2011, the two have worked together to expand Stepping Stones’ services with the addition of two program locations. John has also served on the boards of the Cincinnati Nature Center, Dan Beard Council of Boy Scouts, Flying Pig Marathon and StarShine Hospice and Palliative Care. In 2016, John and his wife Kerry were co-chairs of the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball.

“It’s unbelievable to see where he invests,” says Stepping Stones’ board member David Eltringham. “Working with him directly on Stepping Stones is everything from seeing him out working at our camps to leading fundraising and making events like Bloom just absolutely incredible.

“Most great leaders aren’t that approachable,” Eltringham continues. “They’re real ‘A’ personalities. I think John somehow has a heart and a head that really work together with his great passion for our community.”
