Breakthrough Cincinnati and Schneider Electric Volunteer at Summer Day Camp
Date posted: July 30, 2024
On July 26, two local organizations united in celebration of individuals with disabilities. 20 Breakthrough Cincinnati volunteers and a Schneider Electric crew leant support in Summer Day Camp at Stepping Stones’ Given Campus in Indian Hill.
The service day coincided with the 24th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This landmark piece of legislation was enacted in 1990 under President George Bush and has markedly enhanced the lives of those with disabilities across the nation.
Stepping Stones was founded years prior in 1963 as the region’s inaugural summer camp dedicated to serving young people with disabilities. Our agency is the product of a trio of mothers whose loving ambition pioneered recreation opportunities when faced with a lack of options for their children. We have since expanded to offer a variety of year-round programs for children, teens and adults at four Greater Cincinnati locations.
Breakthrough Cincinnati and Schneider Electric Lend Support
Breakthrough Cincinnati is committed to offering a tuition-free college preparatory program aimed at bolstering the academic lives of underserved youth. The nonprofit’s Diya Joshi organized a day of service by rallying high school seniors and university students aspiring to work in Education to assist campers in art, boating, nature and sensory activities.
Schneider Electric’s Quality Supervisor Jerrold Robinson also organized a team of volunteers. This was second year the company has leant support and helping hands to our Day Camp program. It was especially touching to see campers remember their friendly faces for a fun day that included a much-loved “tattoo” parlor!
Stepping Stones is grateful for the continued support promoting inclusion and strengthening the lives of the participants we are so fortunate to serve. Other organizations that have supported Day Camp this season include: AltaFiber, GE Aerospace, Franciscan Ministries, Kids First Sports Camp, Resurgent Capital and WorldPay. We’ve also had a tremendous number of individual volunteers from Cincinnati Country Day, Indian Hill, Madeira, West Clermont, Wyoming and other local schools.
Volunteer opportunities will continue through the school-year with our Saturday Clubs and Overnight Weekend Respites recreation programs. To learn more about getting involved and earning service hours at Stepping Stones, click here.
