Meet our Allyn Day Camp Supervisor!
Date posted: July 9, 2015
Lets all take a moment to welcome Ryan Boyle, our Allyn Campus Day Camp Supervisor!
This is Ryan’s 1st year at camp!
Ryan attended Warren Wilson College and majored in Integrated Studies with a concentration in Sustainable Communities. He spent his first year out of college working with teen boys in a wilderness therapy school. After that, he spent two years working in the after school program at a therapeutic boarding school for boys. After that, a few years later, he taught English in Taiwan for about a year and a half.
When asked what brought him to camp, Ryan said he had always wanted to work at a camp for individuals with disabilities as an undergraduate and he really had loved getting to work with this population in his former jobs. Since he was returning to the states he thought it would be a good opportunity to look for a job in this field. While searching he came upon Stepping Stones and his father had worked here in the seventies–so Stepping Stones seemed like a fated good fit.
Ryan’s favorite thing about camp is the participants. “Every day when I come in they are the highlight of my day. They make me smile, laugh, and, even occasionally, shed a tear. It has been absolutely great working with them.”
Some other fun facts about Ryan are that his favorite color is blue, his favorite camp meals are the vegetarian salad creations the kitchen cooks up, and a fun fact about him is that he speaks Tibetan!
We are so happy that Ryan is the Day Camp Supervisor this summer. He does a great job ensuring that everyone is safe, having fun, and feels like part of the community!
