Summer Sledding at Summer Camp-Given!

Date posted: July 27, 2015

G’day! Yes, you read that right…. the crew at Camp Given went SLEDDING this past week! Since we know there is absolutely no chance of summer camp ever getting a layer of snow (which we are totally fine with!), the lead team brainstormed a creative way to enjoy this wintery sport in the summertime instead! We connected the camp-wide activity to the book “The Sledding Hill”, as we were celebrating the theme of “Bookworms at Camp” and “Literary Geniuses”. We brought in a bunch of bales of hay and spread the hay all over our best sledding hill at camp. We then dug out our sleds that we use for Saturday Kids Club and Young Adult Club in the colder months and sprayed the bottom of each sled with cooking spray, to give it that extra speed. Our kids went sledding on Thursday, and our teens went sledding on Friday. Needless to say – it was one of the coolest activities that we have experienced yet at camp! The joyous smiles on our participants’ faces made everything well worth it, and a special shout out to our Program Supervisor, Alex Edwards, for pushing each sled down the hill! Here are some of the best pictures from the whole experience! Enjoy!
