A Spooktacular Halloween Respite Weekend

Date posted: October 31, 2014

A favored theme by many, our Halloween themed respite was truly a blast! Friday night hosted a haunted trail with a witch’s den, a swarm of bats and a giant spider web, followed by a fantastic night of challenges, like a tasting booth and a pit of worms.  In the background, Hocus Pocus was playing for all to enjoy.

Saturday was filled with Halloween fun. A group of volunteers from Rotary Club of Cincinnati came out to build a new bird sanctuary but could not pass on the chance to send some of their finest zombies out to the program! Luckily, our participants were prepared with Marshmallow Shooters and were quick to defend camp against an invasion of zombified Rotaract’s.

We cannot wait to see all of the birds checking out our new Bird Sanctuary. Many thanks to our friends at the Rotary Club of Cincinnati!

Saturday was also filled with traditional Halloween fun of carving pumpkins. Everyone loves the sensory sensations of digging in and the creativity of carving faces! We also saved the seeds and baked them for a snack at our Ghoul’s Ball!

We ended Saturday night with a Ghoul’s Ball. Participants and staff came dressed in their Halloween best to dance the night away. Costume contest winners were staff member, Zak, dressed as Buzz Lightyear and participant, David, dressed as a rabbit!
