October Saturday Clubs!

Date posted: October 27, 2014

Hello! The month of October has been one for the books for our Saturday Club programs. We have managed to still enjoy time outside with a couple of beautiful fall weather days, and the fun has not stopped! We had some great themes to keep us entertained this month, and along with these themes came craft, silly, engaging & fun activities that I can’t wait to share with all of you.

October 4th marked the first day of our Saturday Clubs in October!

Saturday Kids Club celebrated the occasion with a ‘SUPER SENSORY DAY’! As you can imagine, it was filled with sensory-based activities that seem to be a huge favorite amongst our crew. We touched upon all five of the senses; sight, hearing, touch, taste & smell – which meant there was something fun to do for all of our participants. Some of the favorites included:

  • Pudding Finger Paint – here Groups 1 & 2 put food coloring into vanilla pudding cups, and then got very messy using their fingers to spread out the pudding creating different designs and even experimenting with various color combinations! They also loved smelling the delicious pudding aromas!
  • Scooter Bowling – Groups 3 & 4 got to experience the very fun game of Scooter Bowling in the gym! Here participants would either sit on the square scooters or ride on a mini scooter to knock down the plastic bowling pins and foam shapes to the ground. Participants loved the sensation of gliding!

Saturday Young Adult Club held a night of ‘GAMESHOWS!’ We were separated into the Blue team, Green team & Red team to compete in various games such as The Price Is Right, Cupcake Wars, Chopped and Name that Tune! Our evening program was the big hit…

  • Survivor Mania – here the teams filed into the Gym where they each had their own table. Groups then competed in Survivor-style competitions to see who would come out on top! Participants had to eat Jell-O cups with gummy worms, quickly put together a puzzle, do a relay race with oobleck and master an obstacle course. It was a lot of fun!

October 18th was our second day of Saturday Clubs in October. Our theme was Halloween for both clubs, and it was so fun to see participants arrive in costume!

Saturday Kids Club was all about the ‘SPOOKY HALLOWEEN’ where we focused on traditional Halloween activities that involved pumpkins, spider webs, spiders, ghosts, and of course, candy! We even had a practice round of trick-or-treating where participants visited places like the nurses’ station and my office! Other favorite activities included:

  • Ghost Mud – here Groups 1 & 3 made their own version of white mud by combing soap, shaving cream and added ripped up pieces of newspaper to provide the texture. They had so much fun getting messy with this activity!
  • Mummy Wrap – Groups 3 & 4 got into the “Mummy” spirit in the gym by wrapping themselves like mummies using toilet paper. I think they had the most fun ripping out of their wrappings!

Saturday Young Adult Club kept up the Halloween spirit by celebrating with their ‘HALLOWEEN DANCE!’ So many participants arrived in fabulous costumes; we had Mr. Incredible, Wolverine, Snow White and a few pirates, just to mention some of the creativity that was present that night. We kept busy with a Haunted Trail and a few other great activities:

  • Pumpkin Carving – It would not have been a Halloween club without some pumpkins being carved! You can check out the cool pumpkins we created on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SteppingStonesOhio) – Carving pumpkins is always a huge hit at Saturday Clubs!
  • Pumpkin Spew Artichoke Dip – here participants showed off their culinary skills by mixing their own spinach and artichoke dip that was then served with dinner! I was very impressed with how the group presented their snack! Take a look for yourself!
