Meet Barbara & Jay Wittenbaum – Stepping Stones Supporters
Barbara and Jay Wittenbaum have supported Stepping Stones through their work with the Cincinnati Dreams Come True since 2011. After hearing about Stepping Stones, they reached out to see how they could help. Since then, the Wittenbaums have funded around 96 Summer Day Camp camperships for children with financial needs, opening a world of fun to those children and providing considerable financial relief to their families. “We love to make them happy and it is a way of sharing our love to such deserving young people”.
Generosity is something that both Barbara and Jay have fostered since their early years at home, having such lessons instilled at a young age. Jay grew up visiting nursing homes as a child with a group of neighbors and learned the joy of giving back through his interactions with the residents. Barbara learned about the importance of helping others under the guidance of her kind and caring parents. She says she learned a lot from watching how her father operated his pharmacy in Norwood by treating his customers like family.
Barbara and Jay own and operate S P Agency Inc, a family-based insurance agency. Jay is the founder and president and Barbara has worked in customer service there for 55 years. They both take great pride in their work and are grateful to be able to share this legacy with their family. Their 2 sons both work for the agency and it has recently become a 3rd generation family business after their grandson Jeremy joined after graduating from Ohio State University. They have 8 grandchildren who are “great kids, exceptional students and all of them have the gift of helping others in the community”. Some of the grandkids are pursuing career paths that would bring them into the business while others chose to pursue a variety of other fields, from tennis coaching to psychology. Barbara and Jay are proud to see their family carrying on their legacy both in terms of the family business and providing assistance to others in the community. You can often find the Wittenbaum clan at Sugar-n-Spice restaurant on Sundays for brunch. Barbara and Jay are most proud of the family they’ve built and raised.
Barbara enjoys cooking and baking for others and spending time with her grandchildren. They are fans of the Reds, UC Bearcats Basketball and ATP Tennis.
