Volunteers arrived at the Allyn Campus on March 28, bearing formal gowns, makeup and curling irons to help adults with disabilities welcome spring with a gala dance!

The spring dance has become an annual event at Stepping Stones’ Overnight Respite program and is a gift from Clough United Methodist Church. “One of the missions of our church is to support people of all abilities,” said Janet Stehlin, who coordinated the event for Clough. The close to 20 volunteers ranged from teens in the youth group to retirees.

“When you have a disability, sometimes you feel like your main social contacts are your family,” said Stehlin. “It’s nice to interact with new people and know that people beyond your family care about you.”

Volunteers and participants danced to party classics like the Electric Slide, enjoyed desserts and took turns posing in the Photo Booth.
